Frequently asked questions about the website link checker

When you enter a domain, the tool checks it against Control D’s Malware Filter - a constantly updated list of known malicious domains. This filter is built from multiple trusted security feeds and our own threat intelligence, so it can quickly flag domains associated with malware distribution, phishing, botnet command-and-control, and other high-risk activity.
The list is refreshed in near real time, with new threats added as soon as they are discovered. This helps ensure that even recently registered or compromised domains are quickly identified.
The tool will alert you that the domain is flagged as malicious. If you’re using Control D with the Malware Filter enabled, access to that site will be blocked automatically at the DNS level before any dangerous content can reach your device.
Alongside the malware check, the tool can run an AI-driven analysis of the domain. This beta system examines the site’s HTML, JavaScript, and visual appearance to identify potential security risks, phishing patterns, and unusual or suspicious elements. It also classifies the site into detailed categories - for example, its content type, purpose, or geographic focus.
The beta is usually correct, but results should be treated as informational only for now. This stage is helping us refine accuracy, expand category coverage, and improve detection of emerging threats.

Not yet. The beta data can help you better understand a site’s potential risks and characteristics, but it isn’t currently connected to filtering rules. Once the beta concludes, the analysis will be integrated into more advanced filtering and alerting options.

Even without rule creation, it gives deeper insight into a domain’s nature and possible security concerns. This can help you make more informed decisions about whether to visit or trust a site.
